at least one (1) member whose primary expertise or area of interest is in medical, clinical or biological sciences or related disciplines (“Scientific Member”); and
at least one (1) member whose primary expertise or areas of interest is not in medical, clinical or biological sciences or related disciplines (“Non-scientific Member”).
Appointment of Members: The Chairman shall identify a suitable number of members with a suitable mix of backgrounds and expertise as appropriate for supporting the HKCREC’s responsibilities. All HKCREC members shall be appointed by the Chairman in writing.
Resignation from Membership: Each member may, at his/her own discretion, resign from HKCREC membership any time by notice in writing to the Chairman.
Termination of Membership: Membership of the HKCREC may be terminated by the Chairman anytime in writing if a member no longer fulfills the relevant requirements (e.g. the applicable conditions set out in Sections 4.1.1 and 4.6.1) or is deemed by the Chairman unsuitable to continue to be an HKCREC member.
A HKCREC member has the responsibilities to support accomplishment of the mission and fulfillment of the responsibilities of HKCREC by contributing to ethics and scientific review and oversight of clinical studies, such as:
receiving and reviewing documents and information of clinical studies through the Secretariat;
participating in HKCREC review meetings;
giving his/her opinions on any application, submission or issue of which he/she participated in review; and
keeping the information of clinical studies he/she reviewed confidential.
